Chef Auction 2016

Held October 6 at the Allan House, the event gives guests the opportunity to bid on exclusive dining packages with notable Austin chefs. With small bites prepared by each chef, refreshing libations, desserts and specialty espresso beverages as well as a fantastic silent auction, you’re bound to leave happy even if you don’t place the highest bid (though we’d love it if you did).

THE EVENT: Thursday, October 6

On Thursday, October 6, enjoy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Auction Chefs, hand-crafted cocktails from Paula’s Texas Spirits and OTR: On the Rocks Premium Cocktails, wines from Bending Branch Winery and beer from Real Ale Brewing, at the historic Allan House (1104 San Antonio St.) from 6–10 p.m.  Celebrity auctioneer Walt Roberts and emcee Kelly Stocker will take the stage to encourage guests to get their paddles up and stake their claim on the chef of their dreams. After the live auction, guests can enjoy live music under the historic Allan House trees with specialty espresso beverages from Texas Coffee Traders and desserts from Delysia Chocolatier and more.

Live Auction package bidding starts at 7:30 p.m. From a backyard BBQ with Aaron Franklin to fifteen courses with Tyson Cole, the bidders at our past Chef Auction have taken away some seriously incredible experiences. Check out this year's participating chefs below.

Delysia Chocolatier: Enjoy a private chocolate 101 class for six at Delysia's Culinary Center with owner and chocolatier, Nicole Patel, to learn the intricacies of chocolate and chocolate making. Leave with delicious chocolate bark you made!

Vox Table: Take seven friends with you to enjoy a weekend morning in the best way - with brunch! Vox Table will help customize a brunch complete with mimosas for eight in their private PDI room.

Hilton Austin // Cannon & Belle: Enjoy the chef's tasting menu for six at the soon to open (and already buzzworthy) Cannon & Belle in the Hilton Austin downtown.

Benjamin Baker: 
Travaasa Experiential Resorts

A luxurious and restorative weekend package for two at Travaasa Experiential Resort including a two-night stay, a private culinary experience with Chef Benjamin Baker, a tour of the Travaasa Farm and daily breakfasts.

About the Chef: Chef Benjamin Baker brings to the Travaasa kitchen a good attitude, a great set of knives and a 167-year-old sourdough starter. He has a passion for baking breads and pastries and a dedication to seasonal, local and organic ingredients. 


Shawn Cirkiel: Parkside Projects

From Parkside to Bullfight, and everything in between, Chef Cirkiel has proved his staying power in the ever changing Austin food scene. Bring him home and enjoy passed hors d'ouevres and a four course dinner with pairings for eight in the comfort of your own home. 

About the Chef: Chef Cirkiel attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where he found his passion for ingredient-driven food, a tenet readily noticeable at each of his restaurants. After culinary school, he honed his skills in Napa at Domaine Chandon and in New York City at Café Boulud before coming back to take the helm at Jean-Luc's Bistro as Austin's youngest five-star chef prior to opening Parkside.


Tyson Cole: Uchi / Uchiko

Live Auction Package:
Enjoy the luxury of Uchi and Uchiko with a custom menu and pairings for 8-10, including a personalized chef demonstration with Tyson himself, in the private room at Uchiko.

About the Chef: Tyson Cole is a passionate student of the Japanese tradi­tion. He has trained for more than 10 years in Tokyo, New York, and Austin, under two different sushi masters. He continues his path of study and exper­i­men­ta­tion at Uchi, devel­oping unprece­dented, multi-cultural combi­na­tions using his impec­cable knowl­edge of tech­nique.


Sonya Coté: Eden East

If you've ever eaten at Eden East, you know the particular joy of a meal on the farm. Now it's your chance to savor that sensation at home. Chef Coté will create a custom menu with pairings for 8-10 and bring the magic of the farm straight to your door.

About the Chef: For Chef Sonya Coté, cooking is more than just putting food on a plate - it’s about creating "edible pieces of art", utilizing locally-grown and raised ingredients for freshness and nutrition, and educating future generations. Coté can be found splitting her time between her two restaurants and the Homegrown Revival supper club series and combing the fields of Springdale Farm for menu inspirations for Eden East.


Ned Elliott: Foreign & Domestic

Live Auction Package: 
Get ready for a Foreign & Domestic inspired soirée of food and drink for a party of 10 at your home with Chef Ned Elliott.

About the Chef: Ned Elliott grew up gardening in a home where food played an integral role in daily life. Ned was raised by two women, his mothers Sandra and Linda, who shared their love of gardening, cooking and baking with him. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of American at Hyde Park, Ned begin staging at various restaurants in New York City and eventually landed a job at Tabla Restaurant and built an impressive resume at many prestigious New York restaurants.



Zack Northcutt: formerly Swift's Attic

Live Auction Package:
Host a whole animal roast for 8-10 friends at your home with inventive cocktail pairings - all with one of the most imaginative chefs in Austin.

About the Chef: Chef Zack Northcutt, a native Austinite, has transformed his passion for all things meaty into a working in some of the region’s best kitchens including Mulberry, Haddingtons, Cibo, 7, Jean Luc's Bistro and Houston’s Jean Georges Bank. Most recently, Zack was the Executive Chef for Swift’s Attic.


Daniel Olivella: Barlata

Live Auction Package:
Bring Spain home by designing a custom menu for 8-10 guests with Chef Olivella of Barlata Tapas Bar. Five courses and pairings with Spanish cava, wine and sherry - what's not to love?!

About the Chef: Born in the heart of the wine region of Penedes in Spain and with more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant business, Chef Daniel Olivella brings authentic Spanish flavors to his establishments in the Bay Area and Austin.

Jason Stude: Boiler Nine

Live Auction Package:
Bring Boiler Nine home with a five-course dinner for eight complete with wine education and pairings.

About the Chef: At 22, Jason Stude realized his love of cooking and went on to hold notable positions at Lake Austin Spa Resort, The Crossings and as opening Sous Chef of Bolla under David Bull. Jason’s philosophy is to take a global approach to food to create an excellent and memorable dining experience, and to have fun doing it. Jason was crowned Chopped Champion on the Food Network before rejoining the La Corsha Hospitality team as Chef de Cuisine at Second Bar + Kitchen and now has opened Boiler Nine Bar + Grill as Executive Chef.



Nicholas Yanes: Juniper

Live Auction Package:
Chef Nic Yanes will work with you to design the dinner of your dreams for 8-10 guests at your residence. 

About the Chef: Chef Nicholas Yanes earned his Associates of Culinary Arts degree at the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR. His recent experience as creative director at Uchi in Austin and his time spent in Northern Italy helped pave the way to his latest concept, Juniper. Juniper’s menu combines premier ingredients and old world technique to create comforting, yet inventive classic cuisine that connects the northern regions of Italy as well as other adjoining areas with Central Texas.

Profits from the Edible Austin Chef Auction are donated to two nonprofits that greatly impact the Central Texas food community by providing access to healthy food and food education. 

SFCwebSustainable Food Center
The Sustainable Food Center strives to cultivate a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. Their programs include the SFC Farmers' Markets (Downtown, Sunset Valley, the Triangle and East), Grow Local (empowering children and adults to grow their own food by offering education and resources), Farm Direct (connecting local growers with schools, urban residents and institutional food service operations) and The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre (offering nutritional education programs to Austinites that nurture skills in food selection and preparation). 


URlogowebUrban Roots
Urban Roots uses food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community. They provide paid internships to Austin youth between the ages of 14 and 17 to work on their 3.5 acre urban sustainable farm in East Austin. The program allows youth interns a stable, supportive work environment along with a variety of workshops on sustainable agriculture, healthy lifestyles, life and job skills and food justice issues. The Urban Roots farm donates 40% of their harvest to local soup kitchens and food pantries.
