Chef Auction 2018

Held October 4 at The Allan House, the event gives guests the opportunity to bid on exclusive dining packages with notable Austin chefs. With small bites prepared by the chefs, refreshing libations, an oyster bar hosted by our friends at Fulton Fish Market, as well as a fantastic silent auction, you’ll leave happy even if you don’t place the highest bid (though we’d love it if you did).

THE EVENT: Thursday, October 4

On Thursday, October 4, enjoy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Auction Chefs, at the historic Allan House (1104 San Antonio St.) from 6–10 p.m.  Celebrity auctioneer Walt Roberts and emcee Kelly Stocker will take the stage to encourage guests to get their paddles up and stake their claim on the chef of their dreams. After the live auction, guests can enjoy live music under the historic Allan House trees and more.

On site for the event will be Bending Branch Winery, Dripping Springs Distilling, Still Austin Whiskey Co., Shiner Beer and Texas Coffee Traders with some refreshing libations.

Silent Auction:

Shawn Cirkiel: Parkside Projects

Live Auction Package:
Throw a pizza party in your backyard that guests will talk about for years to come! The Backspace and Chef Shawn Cirkiel will bring their authentic mobile pizza oven to your home, to whip up fresh pizza, antipasti and dessert for up to 40 people. You'll have enough delicious food to invite the whole block, and then some!

About the Chef: Chef Cirkiel attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where he found his passion for ingredient-driven food, a tenet readily noticeable at each of his restaurants. After culinary school, he honed his skills in Napa at Domaine Chandon and in New York City at Café Boulud before coming back to take the helm at Jean-Luc's Bistro as Austin's youngest five-star chef prior to opening Parkside and The Backspace.


Sonya Coté: Eden East

If you've ever enjoyed a meal at Eden East, you know the exceptional bliss of dining on the farm. Here is your chance to savor that lovely sensation during a private meal in the heart of the beautiful dining space at Eden East! Chef Coté will create a custom multi-course menu with pairings for 10, all designed with the winning bidders. The evening will also feature a tour of the beautiful Springdale Farm.

About the Chef: For Chef Sonya Coté, cooking is more than just putting food on a plate—it’s about creating "edible pieces of art", utilizing locally-grown and raised ingredients for freshness and nutrition, and educating future generations. Coté can be found splitting her time between her two restaurants and the Homegrown Revival supper club series and combing the fields of Springdale Farm for menu inspirations for Eden East.

Bryce Gilmore: Barley Swine

Live Auction Package: 
Grab several of your closests friends and family for a collaborative custom multi-course menu served at farm-to-table restaurant Barley Swine. The private, interactive dinner for 10 with Chef Bryce Gilmore will also feature beer and wine pairings.

About the Chef: Barley Swine originates from humble beginnings: a farm-to-trailer food truck called Odd Duck that gained such a dedicated following, Gilmore was driven to open a restaurant. Since opening in 2010, tables at Barley Swine have become a hot commodity and guests frequently rave about the curated menu of locally sourced small plates and craft beers. The restaurant encourages sharing dishes with loved ones and has created an ambiance that fosters a sense community and friendship.

Jesse Griffiths: Dai Due // New School of Traditional Cookery

Live Auction Package: 
One winner will have the unforgettable experience of joining Jesse Griffiths of Dai Due on a guided hunt for a whitetail doe at a ranch near Bertram, Texas. Once the deer is caught, it will be given a full custom butchery, processing and packaging at Dai Due. Then the package winner can bring over 3 of their favorite dining partners to the restaurant for a dinner with the fantastic fresh venison—Plus, alcohol is included!

About the Chef: Jesse Griffiths created Dai Due in 2006 with Tamara Mayfield as an Austin supper club and farmers market stand with a focus on ingredients that represent Central Texas. In 2014, Griffiths opened Dai Due Butcher Shop & Supper Club, the brick-and-mortar incarnation of his concept, which continues to serve fresh, fairly-produced food from Texas farmers and ranchers. The James Beard Award-finalist author of Afield: A Chef’s Guide to Preparing and Cooking Wild Game and Fish, Griffiths is at the forefront of the hunting-cooking movement with his popular practical hunting classes and Dai Due’s strictly-local butcher shop.

Enjoy a group dinner every guest will remember in the private dining room at Il Brutto. Chef Erind Halilaj will prepare a multi-course dinner with wine pairings for 20, centered around the restaurant’s impressive Italian fare.

About the Chef: As a result of being raised in Italy, Chef Erind Halilaj has a deep passion for good food and the dining experience. His goal with Il Brutto is to bring authentic Italian cuisine to Austin. Il Brutto's menu represents the cuisine of Italy as a whole, from Mediterranean flavors of the south, to central lamb dishes, and beef tenderloin from the north. His dishes are respectful of tradition, and that starts with fresh ingredients and classic techniques.

Zach Hunter: The Brewer's Table

Live Auction Package:
The Brewer’s Table invites you to come by and stay awhile. Enjoy beverages and nibbles in the restaurant’s lager garden, while Chef Zach Hunter prepares a custom cookout on their newly installed outdoor grill. After your feast, come on a brewery tour with head brewer Drew Durish and founder Jake Maddux, while sipping on some house lagered beers.

About the Chef: The Brewer's Table offers a full lineup of signature beers brewed in-house—most of which feature a crossover and collaboration of ideas and ingredients with the food made in their wood-fired kitchen. Their menu is ever-changing and a reflection of time and place, featuring a variety of local partners and farms. Before heading up their culinary team, Chef Zach Hunter worked at two Michelin starred restaurants and was the chef de cuisine at Fixe.

Yoshi Okai 

Yoshi Okai: Otoko // South Congress Hotel

Live Auction Package:
Tourists and staycationers alike can find a fantastic couple days in this package with Chef Yoshi Okai. Spend two nights in luxury at the South Congress Hotel, and bring in a couple more friends to enjoy a classic omakese dinner for four with wine pairings, prepared by Chef Okai.

About the Chef: Otoko is a 12-seat Japanese omakase restaurant located at South Congress Hotel in Austin, Texas. The multi-course omakase experience at Otoko blends Tokyo-style sushi and Kyoto-style kaiseki into a unique tasting menu, selected and prepared by Head Chef Yoshi Okai based on ingredient availability and seasonality.


Ian Thurwachter: Intero

Live Auction Package:
Guests will enjoy a five-course contemporary Italian dinner at the winning bidder's home, prepared by Chef Ian Thurwachter. The meal will feature a customized menu including seasonal, local produce and ingredients, with the option for a delicious chocolate dessert course.

About the Chef: Ian Thurwachter has been a chef at several top Austin institutions, from Jeffrey’s to Vespaio, and was named among Austin’s “30 under 30” in 2014. His experience, talent and passion lead him to develop Intero’s concept and approach in whole animal butchery and whole produce usage in his dishes. Ian’s appreciation and understanding of ingredients shines through in his cuisine.


Nicholas Yanes: Juniper

Live Auction Package:
We invite you and seven of your friends, foes, or family to join us in the kitchen of Juniper for a cooking, eating and wine tasting extravaganza. Juniper’s auction package will start with a hands-on ravioli and pasta making demo with Chef Nic. During the demo, you’ll enjoy cheeses, meats and light snacks. The pasta demo will be followed by a classic Italian wine class while the chefs prepare a special five-course family-style dinner. The evening will end with a course on amaro and grappa from Northern Italy.

About the Chef: Chef Nicholas Yanes earned his Associates of Culinary Arts degree at the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR. His recent experience as creative director at Uchi in Austin and his time spent in Northern Italy helped pave the way to his latest concept, Juniper. Juniper’s menu combines premier ingredients and old world technique to create comforting, yet inventive classic cuisine that connects the northern regions of Italy as well as other adjoining areas with Central Texas.

Profits from the Edible Austin Chef Auction are donated to two nonprofits that greatly impact the Central Texas food community by providing access to healthy food and food education.

The Sustainable Food Center strives to cultivate a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. Their programs include the SFC Farmers' Markets (Downtown and Sunset Valley), Grow Local (empowering children and adults to grow their own food by offering education and resources), Farm Direct (connecting local growers with schools, urban residents and institutional food service operations) and The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre (offering nutritional education programs to Austinites that nurture skills in food selection and preparation).

Urban Roots uses food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community. They provide paid internships to Austin youth between the ages of 14 and 17 to work on their 3.5 acre urban sustainable farm in East Austin. The program allows youth interns a stable, supportive work environment along with a variety of workshops on sustainable agriculture, healthy lifestyles, life and job skills and food justice issues. The Urban Roots farm donates 40% of their harvest to local soup kitchens and food pantries.
