Known as the “Red Poppy Capital Of Texas,” the city of Georgetown, Texas, will mark the spring season by celebrating its signature red poppies with the 18th Annual Red Poppy Festival. The festival encompasses three days of concerts, parades, contests, art, food and family fun in the downtown area. Georgetown is one of the few places in the United States where red poppies grow naturally every year. Red poppies have been a part of Georgetown’s landscape for more than 70 years.

Keep Austin Beautiful is now expanding their reach by providing free plants, tools, soil, mulch, and compost for individuals on Saturday, April 29th. This is the organization’s second large scale Resource Giveaway Day and are looking forward to making it again possible for individuals and neighbors to get what they need to make their own small plot of Austin more beautiful.

Disco Soup is a Slow Food event where perfectly edible food on its way to the landfill is rescued, chopped up, and transformed into free meals to hand out to the public. With the help of the Sustainable Food Center and To Go Co Compostable Products, Slow Food Austin’s Disco Soup will bring together volunteers, live music, DJ Marshall Lowry, and local non-profits working to stop food waste in Austin. In addition to enjoying a delicious, free meal, attendees can participate in farmers' market shopping.
