The Austin Fermentation Festival is a free educational event that celebrates all things fermented in Central Texas. Join us for a day filled with workshops focused on fermented foods, an expanded farmers’ market w/ a focus on fermented products, specialty dishes from local chefs that feature fermented ingredients, live music and a silent auction with prizes from wonderful local businesses! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Texas Farmers’ Market Ag Producer Support Fund, which offers financial assistance to TFM farmers and ranchers in times of environmental, personal or other crisis.

The loop course starts and finishes at Altstadt Brewery and follows beautiful dirt roads and gentle trails inside of the brewery property in the rural outskirts of Fredericksburg. Strollers are welcome on the course! All runners receive a beer tasting with finisher glass, tech shirt and awesome awards.

Chef Monique will take lesser-used parts of your weekly groceries and turns them into the stars of a recipe. In the United States, food waste is estimated at between 30-40 percent of the food supply. Learn how you can help reduce that percentage with easy and delicious recipes that make the most out of all those odds and ends. Follow your nose and bring your appetite to the chef demo tent, where there’s sure to be a delicious sample or two!

Participants will make chocolate from bean to bar with SRSLY chocolate’s owner and chocolate maker, Bob Williamson. The workshop will go over all aspects of chocolate making. From sorting, cracking, winnowing and grinding cocoa beans to tempering and molding stone ground chocolate, this class does it all! Participants then get to hand craft and customize their own chocolate bars! For an extra special treat we will be using Confituras very own amazing dried Texas flowers and spices to the bars to create one of a kind flavor combinations!
