Good Boy! Treats

Makes 20–24 2-inch treat balls

I first saw this mix-and-match treat recipe in Modern Dog magazine and have since come up with my own blends that my dogs adore. Just remember that treats should comprise no more than 10 percent of your dog’s daily caloric intake. For my small doggies, I break them into three pieces.

Super easy

Good Boy! Treats

For 1 Batch(es)

Spice Blend

  • 1 teaspoons turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons shredded, unsweetened coconut (soaked for 1 hour)
  • 1 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint

  • 2 cups all purpose flour (or 1 c. whole wheat and 1 c. all-purpose)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cups cooked and mashed sweet potato or canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cups canned sardines or salmon, mashed
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed

Good Boy! Treats Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, egg and choice of one flavor—either vegetable, fish or banana—and up to two seasonings.
  2. Roll the mixture into 1- to 2-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Press the balls flat with a fork, if you wish.
  3. Bake at 325° for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly browned.
  4. Cool and store in an airtight container. Treats will keep for up to a week. They freeze nicely.
