The amber color of this juice may trick folks into believing it is apple juice or Texas tea. But the earthy, cucumber-sweet flavor of the Turk's cap red, berry-like fruit will be a pleasant surprise. Serve over ice with a few Turk's cap flower petals floating in each glass for an added wild-edible experience. And don't forget that some juices are meant to be spiked! Add some tequila, and you'll have a cocktail on the rocks.
Easy
1 cups ripe, red Mexican apples (Turk’s cap fruit), fresh or dried
2 cups water
1/4 cups sugar (or to taste)
Mexican Apple Agua Fresca Directions
Wash the fruit and place it in a saucepan with the water and sugar. Simmer for about 20 minutes, until the fruit softens.
Crush the fruit with the back of a large spoon or a masher. Strain the liquid through cheesecloth, and gently squeeze out all the juices. Let cool and serve over ice.
