From Israel With Love (and Babka): How Two Sisters Are Spreading Joy One Sweet Slice at a Time

In the heart of Austin’s baking scene, LADY BABKA is doing more than just satisfying sweet cravings — it’s building community, creating jobs, and wrapping generations of family tradition into every delicious twist of dough.

Founded by Sariel, a former litigation lawyer from Israel, and joined by her sister Adar, also a former attorney, LADY BABKA is a testament to resilience, reinvention, and the sweet magic of following your passion — even when the path is far from linear. What began as one immigrant mom’s search for purpose and connection in a new country has blossomed into a woman-owned, Israeli-rooted business that’s delivering handmade babka nationwide.

Babka With a Mission

LADY BABKA isn’t just about baking. “We’re not just building a company,” Sariel says, “we’re building opportunities.” After moving to the U.S. and realizing she couldn’t practice law due to language barriers and licensing restrictions, Sariel leaned into the warmth of her family’s baking traditions. What began as a humble homage to her grandmother’s recipe quickly became something bigger — a way to bring people together, support other immigrant women, and reignite professional identities that motherhood often forces into the background.

With the addition of her sister Adar — who moved her own family from Israel to join the mission — LADY BABKA doubled down on its core values: supporting mothers, empowering women, and celebrating cultural heritage through food.

Woman-Owned and Fearlessly Forward

The company is proudly women-owned and women-powered. “We see ourselves as strong, independent women with unwavering work ethic and a deep passion to grow,” Sariel explains. From business strategy to baking, the sisters apply everything they’ve learned in law, leadership, and life into building a sustainable and joyful brand.

In March 2024, Sariel won a major pitch competition — with only two hours’ notice to prepare. The win, especially meaningful given English is her second language, marked a significant milestone and solidified LADY BABKA’s momentum as a rising business with heart and hustle.

Jobs With Heart

LADY BABKA is dedicated to creating meaningful, flexible jobs — especially for immigrant women and moms of young children. “We know firsthand how hard it is to start over in a new place, juggling a career and a family,” Adar says. “We want to offer more than a paycheck — we want to offer purpose.”

Their team is made up of women who support each other, believe in the product, and show up with pride. For moms reentering the workforce, LADY BABKA offers the rare combination of meaningful work and flexibility — all while baking joy into every batch.

A Family Recipe with National Reach

In January 2025, the company rebranded from Babka ATX to LADY BABKA to better reflect its growing reach and mission. And it’s growing fast — their signature babkas are now sold in over 50 stores nationwide and online at ladybabka.com.

Babka, described by the sisters as “a cake-like bread with a twist,” is handmade from scratch with high-quality ingredients and no preservatives. Whether you’re biting into the pillowy richness of their babka loaf — perfect for sharing — or indulging in their on-the-go MINI BABKA (coffee’s new best friend), each bite offers a comforting taste of home.

And just in time for fall and the holidays, LADY BABKA is bringing back its fan-favorite Apple Cinnamon Babka — a sweet swirl of tradition, celebration, and cozy season vibes, ideal for Rosh Hashanah, Thanksgiving, and any gathering worth remembering.

A Sweet Legacy

At its core, LADY BABKA is a love story — between sisters, between cultures, and between the past and present. What started as Sariel’s personal project to recreate her grandmother’s babka has become a symbol of everything they hold dear: family, resilience, community, and yes — a deep, abiding love for really, really good babka.

Whether it’s gifted at a celebration, enjoyed quietly with morning coffee, or sent across the country as a sweet reminder of home, LADY BABKA’s mission remains simple: spread love, one slice at a time.
